DESIRE IN BRITAIN
PLANS FOR OFFENSIVE CHOOSE RIGHT TIME LONDON. April 18 The keen desire of the British forces to gel to grips with the enemy was emphasised bv the joint Undersecretary for War. Mr Arthur Henderson. in a speech yesterday. They had had to be patient for a long time, he .aid. An enormous leeway had to be made up under the stress of conditions that taxed all our spiritual. material and production resources. At home and elsewhere workers in all essential industries and services had played a magnificent part in producing growing quantities of the weapons of victory. Mr Henderson echoed the recent words of other manners of the Government, saying the time was coming when Britain would turn more and more to the offensive—a situation made possible largely because of the mounting production of all types of war munitions in the factories of the United Nations. But he added the warning that we must choose the right time for an Allied offensive and strike the hardest blows where they would be felt the most. Referring to Hitler's prophesied spring offensive against Russia, he said our Russian ally would be fortified by Ihe knowledge that all the united nations will do everything in their power to ensure the failure of that offensive. Mr Henderson concluded: “Our war fighters and war workers are united by one common impulse—to go all out for victory in order to win an all-out victory. They are determined to finish the job they have begun. and finish it thoroughly.”
