14 BOYS IN COURT
THEFTS FROM, VACANT HOUSE GISBORNE, Friday Fourteen boys of varying ages charged with the theft of articles from the residence of Mr J. BamsGraham, appeared in the Children’s Court in Gisborne. DetectiveSergeant Waterson stated that the house had been vacant from November. and had been visited by the boys, who had removed articles of a total value of approximately £3OO, including a painting of Bonnie Prince Charlie which was estimated to be worth £2OO. The picture had not been recovered. It appeared that one boy enticed another into the affair, until quite a large party was involved. Some had been attracted by a suggestion that they would be visiting a haunted house. In addition to the removal of articles, much damage had been committed, and the interior of the house appeared as if a mob of monkeys had been let loose in it. Four of the boys were placed under the supervision of the child welfare officer for two years and three of them for one year, while the remaining seven were admonished and discharged.
