MANY ENEMY PLANES DESTROYED

GREAT INCREASE IN AIR ACTIVITY AUSTRALIAN AIRMEN ACTIVE AGAINST JAPANESE LONDON, March 24 Increased air activity by both sides has flared up throughout the Pacific war zone. The Japanese, making determined attempts to put the aerodrome at Port Moresby out of action, heavily raided the capital of New Guinea again, but owing to the heavy anti-aircraft fire, were forced to keep at a great height and did little military damage. In the Philippines .54 Japanese bombers of a new type raided the American and Filipino positions, but damage was slight. In Burma the Japanese heavily bombed positions cNi the road to Mandalay and an Allied aerodrome, but they were hotly engaged and most of their bombs fell wide. The Allies have also been active in the air. American squadrons successfully attacked a Japanese aerodrome in Siam and caught about 50 planes on the ground, destroying seven and damaging many others. Australian planes have been active against the Japanese just north of Australia.
