GARDEN COMPETITION
DETAILS OF AWARDS JUDGING COMPLETED Jud/jing in the garden competitions conducted by the Hamilton Horticultural Society has been completed. The gardens were inspected in October and a second inspection was scheduled for February, but owing to the shortage of petrol these inspections have only recently been completed. Following are the results: — Gudex Cup for gardens on sections of not more than \ acre and no outside help.—Mrs W. Wilcock, Nixon Street, 1; Mrs A. E. de Lacey, Anglesea Street, 2; R. Cowley, Coates Street, 3. Horticultural Society’s Cup for gardens with no limit as to area, but employed labour limited to one day a week.—Mrs L. A. Powell, Lake Crescent, 1; Mrs P. T. Powell, Tramway Road, 2; Mrs W. Wilcock, 3. Lyceum Challenge Trophy for most attractive garden from the street.—Miss G. Wyatt, Thackeray Street, 1; Mrs P. T. Powell, Tramway Road. 2; Mrs E. C. Firth, Lake Crescent, 3. Best Flowers, not more than £ acre, no outside labour.—Miss G. Wyatt, 1; Mrs G. Wilcock, 2; R. Cowley, 3. Best Vegetables, not more than £ acre, no outside labour.—Mrs Z. Harris, Ulster Street, 1; R. Cowley, 2; Mrs W. Wilcock, 3. The judge, Mr J. Baiy.rd, stated that Mrs Harris’ garden was outstanding in this class. Best Garden attached to a State house.—C. W.
