ENEMY CLAIMS

BRITISH SHIPS SUNK (United Press assii.—Elec. Tel. cooi-right) (Received March 24. 3.15 p.m.) LONDON, March 23 An Italian communique states: Italian torpedo planes attacked a British convoy that was bound for Malta, sinking a cruiser and a 10,000-ton merchantman and heavily damaging two warships and a merchantman. A German communique says: A British convoy was attacked off the Gulf of Sirte. One merchantman was sunk and two others put out of action. The Berlin radio, quoting the Stefani News Agency, says the convoy consisted of six transports, four destroyers and a larger warship. This conflicts with an assertion by Giomale d’ltalia that the convoy comprised 20 vessels, including five "misers and seven destroyers.
