DOMINIONS OFFICE

MR ATTLEE S APPOINTMENT MESSAGE FROM NEW ZEALAND (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Friday The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, has sent the following message to Mr C. R. Attlee, the new Dominions Secretary:— “My colleagues and I noted with great interest and warmly welcome your assumption of the Seal of the Dominions Office, and we are convinced that the direct contact thus established between the Dominions and yourself as Deputy-Prime Minister and member of the War Cabinet must be advantageous. “Our relations with the Secretary of State for Dominion Affairs have always been of the most cordial and harmonious nature, and we are confident that our association with you will be to the mutual benefit of our two countries. We join with you in full confidence that the British Commonwealth will emerge from the present struggle stronger and more united than every before.” Mr Fraser has also sent the following cable to Mr Attlee’s predecessor, Lord Cranborne: — “Will you allow me on behalf of my colleagues and myself to express to you on your relinquishing the Seal of the Dominions Office our warm appreciation of the friendly and helpful collaboration that you have always extended to us throughout your term of office, and to wish you all good fortune in the new responsibility that you have assumed.”
