THEATRE ROYAL Marlene Dietrich’s first venture Into light comedy is when she stars in Universal’s “The Flame of New’ Orleans,” which is being shown at the Theatre Royal. In the opening of the film she is portrayed as a sheltered gentlewoman of early Louisiana. However, later this gentlewoman becomes a gaudy cafe girl and the situation Involves a complete transformation from billowy, feminine clothes. Miss Dietrich handles the the assignment with unusual skill. REGENT THEATRE Funnier than “Caught In the Draft,” Pai amount’s “Nothing but the Truth,” with Bob Hope and Paulette Goddard, Is screening at the Regent theatre. Ilow a man bet 10,0 v 0 dollars that he could tell the whole tiutn and nothing but the truth for twenty-lour hours is the theme of the story, while Bob Hope’s effort to carry out this wager presents hilarious comedy which only he can render. STATE THEATRE “Isle of Destiny,” a jewel of the South Pacific where murder struck at a beautiful girl who searched for adventure and found romance. CIVIC THEATRE A combination of thrills and happiness is experienced in the film “ Keep Smil--1 ing,’’ which is showing at the Civic ; theatre. A leader of a variety troupe (Grade Fields) performs the task of guide, philosopher and friend to her colleagues during then travels and delightful country scenes are intermingled with seaside settings. It is a lavish film. Supporting the world famous Grade is the young Australian actress Mary Maguire. Seven new song hits are sung by Grade Fields during the film. Other players are Rogei Livesey, Peter Coke, Jack Donohue and the dog “ Skippy.’’
