YOUTH SUCCUMBS CLIMBED TRANSFORMER POLE FATE OF YOUNG MAORI (Special to Times) MATAMATA. Tuesday Suffering from extensive burns and shock, a Maori youth, Manaaki Wirihana, aged 16 years, was admitted to hospital in Tirau yesterday and succumbed some . three hours later. A son of Mr Teotangi Wirihana, he had been gathering blackberries in company with his brother, Teira, and decided to climb a no]?, to which was affixed a transformer. Apparently he came in contact with the transformer and was thrown to the ground. The brother, Teira, who was leaning against a stay wire of the pole, received a .shock, and after freeing himself saw Manaaki Wirihana lying on the ground. Wirihana was employed as a sharemilker on the farm of Mr Sefton Banks, at Piarere, Tirau. An inquest was opened by the district coroner, Mr A. J. Tong, and adjourned following evidence of identification.
