FIRE TRAGEDY SEQUEL EVIDENCE OF STRANGULATION REMAINS FOUND IN BACH (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON. Tuesday Rakapa Nukumuku, aged 20, labourer. stated to have been for some considerable time prior to January 28 an inmate of the Porirua Mental Hospital, was charged before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., today with murdering on that date Miss Mary Currie, head laundress at the institution. Remains presumed to be those of Miss Currie were removed from a cottage at Titahi Bay after its destruction by fire. Dr. P. P. Lynch, pathologist, stated in court that there was evidence of strangulation and that the woman was dead before the fire reached her. Evidence was given to indicate that Miss Currie was at the house that night and was alone. The hearing is proceeding.
