WILL NOT SURRENDER
INDIA SUPPORTS CHINESE NEHRU AND CHIANG KAI-SHEK (Official Wireless) (Received Feb. 17, 11.30 a.m.) RUGBY, Feb. 16 ! Pandit Jawarharlal Nehru had a long interview today with Marshal Chiang Kai-shek, according to an agency message from New Delhi. Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi, Pandit Nehru said that even if the Burma Road were cut off it would not cripple China. A new road to Chungking from India was nearing completion. India was in complete sympathy with China; it always had been sc, even before the recent developments. “Under no circumstances ” said Pandit Nehru, “are we going to submit or surrender to Japanese aggression.” The King has conferred on Marshal Chiang Kai-shek the insignia of Honorary Knight Grand Cross of the Most Honouiable Order of the Bata (Military Division), in recognition ci iiis outstanding achievements for the Alned cause.
