LAKE REGATTA

TWO DAY EVENT GROCOTT TROPHY CONTEST NGARIE WINS FROM 25 OTHERS The Hamilton Yacht Club held its annual regatta at the Hamilton Lake on Saturday and Sunday. The executive had made thorough arrangements for the regatta. not only for the competitors but also for spectators, and the public address system enabled the public to keep in touch with the progress of events and identify the competing boats, several of which were new to competition on the lake. Boats had been brought from Tauranga, Rotorua. Auckland. Mount Maunganui, and t/.ere was even one from Wellington. The principal event of the extensive programme was the race for the Grocott Trophy, in which competition is confined to yachts from the Bay of Plenty. Rotorua and Waikato districts. A record ‘'field'’ of 26 boats took part in this contest on Saturday afternoon, and a fine contest eventuated. The 26 boats constituted a reebrd number for any regatta event at Hamilton Lake and they provided a fine spectacle. Results: — Tauranga Class Handicap.—Swift (Rotorua) 1. Tiki (Rotorua) and Joy (Hamilton) 2 equal. Silver Fern Championship.—Valerie 1, Clipper 2. Dorothy 3. Open Class Championship.—Wai-iti 1. Ngarie 2. Windward 3. Open Class Handicap.—Wai-iti 1. Isobel 2. Ngarie 3. Tauranga Class Championship.—Swift (Rotorua) 1, Fairy (Hamilton) 2. Tiki (Rotorua) 3. Grocott Trophy (open class). —Ngarie 1, Wai-iti 2. Endeavour 3. Visitors’ Race —Aerial.
