ODTAA WINS CUP GOLDEN BURVEY SCORES MINKO BEATS CENTURY The weather was ideal for the annual meeting- of the Rotorua Racing Club at Arawa Park on Saturday when Orltaa won the Rotorua Cup from Wlldore and Town Section and i'.olden Survey made amends Tor recent failures by scoring decisively over Paymaster and Rex Mai (land. Heroic Star gave by far his best exhibition for some time, when, after being one of the leading divisions throughout, he stuck on well in the straight to win nicely by half a length from Miss Wheriko and Valsome who, in his second up or the day railed only in the last half furlong Miss Wheriko was prominent early rrom Heroic .Star, Valsome and Nan Vaals. valsome hit the front at the hair mile and lead into the straight rrom Miss Wheriko and Heroic Star. Hair way down, Heroic Star assumed the initiative and staying on beat Miss Wheriko by half a length with Valsome two lengths away. Funny Fox was fourth. Time, 1.13 2-5. Sporting Sister, whose track Torm in recent weeks had indicated an early return to form, finished well to win the Geyser Hack In a blanket ilriish with Royal Jay who after being handily placed battled on to get to within a neck of the winner. Mark Anthony ran past him along the back, and this pair was followed here by Kadina, Tea Blossom and Sporting Sister. Mendelssohn moved through smartly three rurlongs from home to show the way into the straight rrom Kadina, Stokowski and Royal Jay. However, Sporting Sister, who was fairly well back at this stage, moved through and going on got the decision by a neck from Royal Jay and Mendelssohn. Kaimanawa was fourth. Time 1.50 4-5.

The ravourite, Minko, always well placed. rought on to get up with Century and beat the latter by a nose. At the hair-mile Oronsay and Ruldimin were in the lead close’/ attended by Minko and Merry May. Century was nrst to turn for home but half wav down was challenged by Minko and in an exciting finish Minko got the decision by a nose over Century, Merry May being hair a length away and Abbey Fox fourth. Time, 1.8 4-5.

Golden Survey made amends for recent failures when she finished on very vigorously in the closing stages or the sprint event to win decisively rrom Paymaster and Rex Maitland. Miss Baffles and Paymaster set the pace to the hair mile and led here on terms in front of Softly. Rex Maitland. Trilliarch and Golden Survey. Manuma took the initiative at the home turn but in the straight Golden Survey, who was fourth to turn, finished very solidly to win go.ng away by two lengths from Paymaster, with Rex Maitland a neck away. Softly, who had every chance, was fourth. Time, 1.13 2-5. Totalisator Decline The machines handled £24.001 compared with £29.580 on the first day of last_ season's two-day fixture, a decrease of £5879.
