PERFORMERS’ CLUB

SUCCESSFUL SEASON YEAR’S WORK REVIEWED , The committee’s report of the year’s activities of the Hamilton 1 Performers’ Club disclosed that although war conditions had considerably reduced the attendances the club had been kept going and the meetings had been very happy gathering.l;. A number of the members had joined the forces and were either serving overseas or in New Zealand, and the club had kept in touch with these members by sending them, from time to time, gifts of cigarettes, cakes, biscuits, etc., which were much appreciated. The president, Mr George Kingston, had been an inspiration to the club through his introduction of community dancing and other entertaining ideas. Several .special nights were arranged, including Barter night, Crazy night, Country Fair, Empire and Allies night, and a Christmas party, all of which were much enjoyed. A visit was received during the year from several members of the Te Kuiti Performers’ Club who contributed items to the programme. It was with regret that the committee had to report the death overseas of Flying-Officer lan Overheu, who was an active member of the club. Prior to his death lan Overheu had won the Distinguished Flying Medal for acts of bravery. The thanks of the club were due tc Miss Rosalie Seddon and party and to others who had willingly come forward and contributed items to the programme. The balancesheet was submitted by the treasurer and showed that the club was financially in a sound position. Mr and Mrs Malcolm Thomas, who had been active members of the club and had gone to live in Paeroa, were unanimously elected life members in recognition of their valued services for many years. The resignation of Mr George Kingston as president owing to his being now permanently in camp was received with regret. The club having lost its usual rooms (Mr George Kingston’s studio) the meeting, after some discussion as to the future of the club, instructed the incoming committee to endeavour to find other accommodation. A motion of thanks to the Press for its assistance during the year was passed. Officers Elected The election of office-bearers resulted as follows:—Patrons, Mr and Mrs A. E. Manning; president, Mr A. E. Cope; vice-president, Mrs H. Curl-ing; hon. secretary, Mr H. J. Ferguson; hon. treasurer, Mrs E. G. Leitch; hon. auditor, Mr W. H. Blakeway; hon. pianist, Mr W. Whitehead; committee, Mrs V.
