ENEMY AMAZED
RESISTANCE BY BRITISH INHUMAN SENSE OF DUTY FORMIDABLE ARTILLERY (United Press Assn.—ticc. Tel. copyright) LONDON, Feb. 13 The last two communiques from Singapore report that the Allied line is in the same general direction as that previously reported. The Japanese admit that they are coming up against formidable British artillery. The fighting in the northern part of the island is becoming intensified, and in the western sector the Japanese are supported by fighters, bombers and medium tanks. The Domei news agency admits fierce Allied resistance in the area of the reservoirs. The Allied Commander-in-Chief, Lieutenant-General Percival, in a message sent at 6.30 this morning, Greenwich mean time, to the Australian Army Minister, Mr Forde, said that the Allied forces, including the Australians, were putting up a stout resistance against heavy odds. A Tokio radio announcer said: “The enemy is apparently determined to die in order to live up to the British Empire’s prestige. Japanese military observers are amazed at the inhuman sense of duty of the British army leaders.”-
