ARTILLERY ANSWERS SHELLS AND BOMBS
ENEMY MAINTAINS VERY SEVERE PRESSURE LONDON, February 13 Terrific fighting is continuing in Singapore, but there appears to have been no material change in the positions of the forces in the past 24 hours. The Allies are concentrating extremely heavy fire on the enemy, as many as 400 shells an hour being pumped out by the artillery. Great demonstrations of enthusiasm have been witnessed in the city because of the heavy losses inflicted on the enemy. Many businesses in the city are open for business as usual. The people are mostly seeking the open in the daytime and returning home at night. Severe enemy pressure has been maintained on the western front on the island, and attacks are being supported by increased air and artillery forces. There has been frequent shelling of the British forward areas and of Singapore city. The Japanese have also made low level dive-bombing attacks on the forward areas and also on the city.
