BOWLING NOTES
SUCCESS AT ROTORUA Congratulations are due to the Hamilton and Whitiora players who reached the llnal in the Rotorua Bowling Club’s annual rinks tournament. Both teams played excellent bowls throughout the ,week, and in the llnal R. Coomhes and his teammates thoroughly deserved their win. This was the seventh time a Hamilton team had won the Rotorua tournament. On the last occasion, in 193 i, R. Pilkington was skip or the victorious team. The club with the next best tally of wins in the long series of annual tournaments at Rotorua is Onehunga, with four successes. Originally a team comprising Seccombe, Robinson, Anchor and Freeman was nominated for this year’s tourney, but word came back that there were too many nominations and Hamilton’s entry could not be accepted. Some days later word was received that Hamilton’s entry could be included, but by that time two of the original team bad made other arrangements. The team that eventually took part in the tournament was Seccombe, Crowley, Anchor and R. Coombes, skip. Returning from the Rotorua tournament last Saturday, a bowler expressed surprise at seeing hundreds of motorcars parked at the Matamata racecourse. He commented that in Rotorua throughout the week there were very few private ears in evidence, yet in the heart or a great dairying district cars were driven to a race meeting.
