The New Zealand commander, Major-General B. C. Freyberg, V.C.. has been praised by a British general.
“The most important factor in modern war is speed,” he said. “Rommel has switched his columns around with remarkable speed, but he has a good match in General Freyberg. who is one of the quickest leaders in modern warfare.” Speaking of the New Zealand and South African forces in the Libyan campaign the general said: "They have received hard knocks, but they have been fighting magnificently/*
