FASHIONS AT TROTS

VOGUE FOR WHITE BRILLIANT SUMMER WEATHER A perfect summer day, with a light breeze to counterbalance the heat of the sun, was responsible for many charming frocks and ensembles being worn at the summer meeting of the Waikato Trotting Club held at Claudelands on Saturday. It was essentially a day for gay dressing and blue in all shades undoubtedly predominated, although there were a number of soft pastel shades, and black and navy still held their own. For months the fashion writers have been predicting a “pure white” summer, and given more of the seasonable weather experienced on Saturday, their prophecy might yet be fulfilled. The fact that quite a number, with so little warm weather to encourage them, should have chosen white ensembles and white jackets and coats for their race-wear is a definite indication of the trend of fashion. White is generally becoming, it looks so cool and immaculate, and is such a refreshing change from the surfeit of colour offered in past seasons, that it provides yet another reason for hoping that there is lots more sunshine ahead.

It was a good day for large hats and the opportunity of wearing them was not missed. In black, navy, white or natural, they made a charming finish to the frocks. Mesdames H.
