£IOO,OOO FORTUNE
RELATIVES IN TARANAKI NEW PLYMOUTH, Friday Living in or around New Plymouth are many relatives of Mrs Alice Merry, who died at Wellington leaving a fortune of £IOO,OOO. The search for Mrs Merry’s will may prove fruitless, because, according to Mr Percy Wood, of Barrett Road, Omata, her brother and two sisters, including his own mother, all died intestate. Mr Wood’s mother, who was Miss Mary Powell, was the first of the family to come to New Zealand from Truro, Cornwall. She was followed by her brother, Mr J. J. K. Powell, and later by the remainder of the family, including Mrs Merry. Their father died in Taranaki after living at various places in the province. The surviving members of the Wood family are Mr Percy Wood, who has 10 children, Mr Robert Wood, of New Plymouth, who has two sons, Mr William Henry Wood, who is believed to be in Wanganui or the Manawatu district, and Mrs Ettie Hague, of Canada, who has one adult son.
