ILLUSTRATED LECTURE The October meeting of the Hamilton Philatelic Society was held on Thursday night in the Y.M.C.A., Mr F. Course taking the chair at the request of the president. Nominations for office for the succeeding year were received preparatory to next month’s election. Members’ appreciation was expressed of receiving their notices enclosed in first-day covers with the new health stamps affixed. Regret was expressed at the loss of two members. Messrs Chapman and Owsley, who had been moved to Whangarei and Wellington respectively. Despite slightly lowered attendance, due to the inclemency of the weather, stamp sales were brisker than ever. The main feature of the evening was an address by Mr Hill, illustrated by lantern slide. Mr J. Gordon acted as projectionist and Mr F. Acton operated the loud-speaker equipment. The subject was, “The Story of Clive Brooke, the White Rajah of Sarawak.” This was followed by observations regarding the development of philately and culminating in general advice. Members were promised a sequel at the next meeting entitled “Do’s and Don’ts in Philately.” A vote of t hauks was accorded thu- speakei\ local co-ordinating committee of the Women’s Division and Women’s Institutes with the following officers:— Mrs W. G. Neill (chairman), Mrs i Warren, Mrs Scobie, Mrs Chapman, Mrs F. Ryburn (committee), Mrs J. . McWharmell (secretary ).
