MEAT NEGOTIATIONS

SATISFACTION EXPRESSED Discussions at the special meeting of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, held in Wellington on Thursday and yesterday, to consider arrangements for the new export season, were described this morning by Mr F. C. Johnstone, of Waitetuna, a member of the electoral committee of the board, as very satisfactory. He said that the schedule for the coming season, apart from a reduction for old ewes and a small reduction in heavier-weight lambs, would be about the same as last year. However, said Mr Johnstone, the Minister of Marketing, the Hon. J. G. Barclay, would be making a full announcement in the near future. At the meeting the Minister had been very frank with the delegates and had given them helpful information. The delegates had left the meeting considerably more optimistic in regard to the immediate future of the industry than when they went to Wellington.

Mr Johnstone added that he had appealed to the Minister to set a price on potter bulls, even a nominal figure, as it was preferable that many classes of bulls would be better off the farms. The Minister had replied that he would investigate this matter immediately.
