MILITARY BALL
BRILLIANT FUNCTION DEBUTANTES PRESENTED The outstanding function of the social calendar in Cambridge this year, the military ball, arranged by cue Cambridge branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, was characterised by scenes of gaiety in the Town Hall on Thursday night, and with the worthy object of augmenting a fund to establish a boiuicit,' Club in Cambridge, the association merits the success which attended the ball. The climax of the evening came with the presentation of five debutantes to Brigadier P. H. Eell, D. 5.0., and Mrs Bell, who were the guests-of-honour. Mr R. Newcombe, president of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, announced the return from the Middle East of Captain T. C. Wallace, and amid sustained applause he welcomed Captain Wallace home again. Artistic floral effects into which were introduced bunting and flags as a patriotic motif were cleverly combined to decorate the stage Whole rhododendron trees, each a mass of cerise blossom, stood on either side of the stage, being illuminated with the soft shades of coloured lights. Feathery bamboo and further clumps of rhododendron were massed in the background, a large tinsel futuristic design forming a scintillating centrepiece. Above the stage R.S.A. in large tinsel letters surmounted a row of flags of the Empire. In the supper room a no less charming effect was carried out in daintier pastel tonings, where large troughs were arranged in a pink colour scheme. The official party on the stage included Brigadier P. H. Bell, D. 5.0., and Mrs Bell; Major Gray and Mrs Gray.
