INCOME FROM BRITAIN

TAXATION APPEAL HEARD (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Thursday The Court of Appeal heard argument today on a question of taxation of considerable importance to taxpayers. Appellant is Amalgamated Dairies, Limited, Auckland, and the respondent is the Commissioner of Taxes. For income tax the Commissioner exempted income derived from England, on which British income tax and national defence contribution had been paid, but for social security charge he included the income derived by the company from England without deducting therefrom the amount of income tax and national defence contribution paid to the English revenue authorities. The appellant company objected to this assessment. Decision was reserved.
