SPRING BLOOMS

FINE SHOW DISPLAY HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY DAFFODILS ON EXHIBITION The beauty of a spring garden was transported to Bledisloe Hall today when the spring show of the Hamilton Horticultural Society was held. Strong entries in all classes were to hand and, effectively benched in the well-lighted hall, the blooms made a splendid display. The daffodils were the main feature of the show, and in this section the entries were particularly strong, In spite of the backward season. The judge for the daffodil section, Mr A. Gibson (Marton) said the standard of the blooms was very good and compared favourably with that at other shows. The lack of sun, he said, helped the coloured cups, which made a very bright display. Of particular interest was the special stall arranged by the gardening circle of the Hamilton Lyceum Club. This took the form of a miniature woodland garden, complete with house, paths, fish pool, rockery and flower beds. A fine display of plants was entered by the Hamilton Beautifying Society. The judge of the cut flowers was Mr M. C. Gudex, and Mrs W. Tudhope judged the decorative section. The show will close at 9 o’clock tonight, when the blooms will be sold.
