CLUB IN CAIRO
SOLDIER MISSES PUDDING Favourable impressions of the New Zealand Forces Club in Cairo are mentioned in a letter received by his wife in Hamilton from Corporal R. U. McMinn. He Says the building is a fine one of ten stories. On each floor from the second upwards there are three or four flats, and each flat has four bedrooms, with about four beds in each. The rooms are large and airy, and the beds quite comfortable. On each floor are several bathrooms. The first floor comprises showers, etc., for the men who arrive from base camp, a large restaurant where the dearest meal costs 2s, barber’s shop, cloak room, and a canteen selling real New Zealand goods. The concert lounge is a large room where one can buy ice cream and soft drinks, and adjoining it are nurses’ quarters and office for information, library, reading and writing rooms. “The only complaint I have,” he says, “is that there is never a pudding of any description obtainable at meals. One can buy fruit salad and ice cream, but I would like a good piece of plum pudding for a change.”
