BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY MEETS ELECTION OF OFFICERS A year's activity was reviewed at the annual meeting of the Hamilton Beautifying Society last night when the report of the president, Mr W. H. Paul, was presented. Mr Paul presided over a fair attendance. All the plots were receiving regular attention, said the president, who reported that a considerable amount of tree planting had been done. The 400 native trees that were planted on the banks of the stream at Memorial Park and Parana Park last season were becoming well established. Sufficient plants had been propagated in the glass houses to make a fair showing of blooms in all the beds and also at the Hamilton East cemetery. Increased Borough Grant The balance-sheet showed that during the year the society had to exceed the Borough Council grant by £4OO. The report and balance-sheet were adopted, and it was mentioned that the Borough Council grant this year would be £1750, an increase of £250. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr W. H. Paul (for the 17th year); vice-presidents, Dr. H. Douglas and Mr W. G. Pountney; committee, Messrs J. R. Fow, H. M. Hammond, F. W. Hare, E. V. Quick, G. Morpeth, T. G. Reynolds, J. F. Strang, J. H. Edgecumbe, A. R. Brown and Dr. H.. E. Harris; honorary treasurer, Mr E. V. Quick; honorary secretary, Mr T. A. Ewan; honorary auditor, Mr G. H. Bindon.
