DEATH AT 102 YEARS

MAORI CHIEFTAINESS (By Telegraph. —press Association) HASTINGS, Thursday The death has occurred at the age of 102 of Mrs Hipera Rakai Werohia, a Maori chieftainess. Mrs Werohia was bom in the Omahu district, near Hastings, and was the only remaining chieftainess of the Ngata Upokoiri tribe. She was married four times. Only from her first marriage was there any family, one daughter. Mrs Werohia is survived by four grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-grandchild.
