TROTTING TRIALS
ACTIVITY AT CLAUDELANDS OUR McKINNEY—NOBLE PRINCE YOUNG PARRY AND CYNIC (By “Padlock”) The going was cutting out but in comparatively good order at Claudelands this morning when a number of local candidates for the postponed meeting at Epsom on Saturday were given their final trials. The programme was not an extensive one, but several interesting trials were recorded, the best efforts of the morning being those of Noble Prince, Our McKinney and Young Parry. Cloverdale (Dunn), who seldom looked better than at present, was associated over a mile and a quarter with the trotter, Gold Kip (Cutts) and both shaped well. Cloverdale is an acceptor for the sprint event at Alexandra Park on Saturday and it will not be on the score of condition if he fails to give of his best. Gold Kip, too, has been working consistently well in recent weeks and shouldmake a forward showing in the Introductory Handicap on Saturday. Joan’s Jewel (Vemall) hit out pleasingly over a mile and a quarter in 3.0, cutting out her final halfmile in 1.10. She is making steady progress.
Cynic (Moran), who is bearing a healthy appearance, was sent two miles, being joined by Young Parry (Cameron) over the last mile and a quarter. Young Parry, who has been showing improved form in his track work of late, was shading his companion at the completion of the effort, the final half-mile of which occupied 1.9. Both these horses are expected to show to advantage in pending engagements. The outstanding effort of the morning # was that of Noble Prince (Oliver) and Our McKinney (Vernall), who finished practically on terms at the completion of a mile and a half, the last half-mile of which was traversed in 1.5. This, considering the state of the going, was an outstanding trial and both horses will have to be reckoned with in the big race at Epaom on Saturday, especially as they are partial to easing conditions. Lord Axworthy (Cockbill) and Alcazar (McKenzie) were associated over a mile but were not after time. Gallant Pointer (Dunn) and Gallant Maid (Sim) worked freely over a mile and a half and pleased by the manner in which they revelled in their work. Imperial Jade (Moran) was worked over a couple of rounds, while Kewpie’s Jewel (Dunn) and Shirwin (Cockbill) were given useful work. Worthy Treasure (Laird) also hit out over a couple of rounds.
