RAIDS ON BRITAIN
LONDON SPELL ENDS (United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel. Copyrlgnt) LONDON, Sept. 3 A small number of German bombers operated over Britain last night. Raiders were reported over East Anglia and north-east England. At one place there was some damage, but no casualties have been reported. Anti-aircraft fire was heard in the early hours of this morning in the London area for the first time since the early days of Germany’s attack on Russia. German aeroplanes are believed to have passed overhead. There is no report of any bombs being dropped. New Zealand Trophy Lost The Society of Miniature Rifle Clubs has informed Mr W. J. Jordan, New Zealand High Commissioner, that the New Zealand Government’s Challenge Shield was lost when the society headquarters were destroyed recently through enemy action. The shield has been used for annual com - petition at one of the society’s open prize meetings at Bisley, or in the provinces.
The president of Rotary International, Mr Thomas Jefferson Davis, said p.fter visiting bombed areas in Britain that he had never seen anything so fine as the spirit of the people, and his only wish was that ether Americans could have been with him. Mr Davis is one of the most prominent Rotarians in the United States.
