OBITUARY
MRS H. M. KIRBY The death occurred yesterday of Mrs C. M. Kirby, wife of Constable H. M. Kirby, of Grey Street, Hamilton East. Bom in Oamaru in 1877, Mrs Kirby was married there in 1900. Constable and Mrs Kirby came to Hamilton in 1923, after having lived for periods in Wellington, Levin, Tolaga Bay, Wairoa and Whitianga, in which towns Constable Kirby was stationed. Mrs Kirby took a keen interest in all social activities, being a member of several women’s organisations. On August 7 Mrs Kirby received head injuries and shock when the car in which she was a passenger collided with a train at the level crossing at Grey Street, Claudelands. Two other police officers’ wives, Mrs D. E. Gudsell and Mrs E. V. Hayes, the latter of whom, was driving the car, were also injured. The five-years-old son of Mrs Hayes, who was also in the car, escaped unhurt. Mrs Kirby is survived by her husband and five children, Messrs N. Kirby (Hamilton), R. Kirby and J. Kirby (members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force overseas), Mrs V. Courtifey (Hamilton) and Mrs C. Black (Opotiki).
