BANDS IN DISTRICT
PLANS TO CARRY ON Delegates from various bands in the district attended the annual meeting of the South Auckland Brass Bands’ Union, the president, Mr T. Farker, presiding. The question of the holding of a band contest in 1942 was discussed and the matter was deferred until a meeting in December. The report submitted disclosed that a successful year had been experienced. The 1941 Easter contest was reluctantly abandoned. Music lor the contest had been selected and despatched from England but is presumed to have been lost. Although ?11 the bands in the union had lost members through military service, all* intended carrying on. The election of officers resulted:— Patrons, Mayors of towns from which there are affiliated bands; president, Mr T. Parker; executive committee, Messrs E. Patterson (Morrinsville), Brownlee (Thames), W. Forrest, Snr. (Ngavuawahia), A. Roberts (Hamilton), S. M. Hall (Waikato Regimental), £. T. McFarlane (Tauranga), H. Sutton (Pukekohe), W. Marks (Matamata) and J. J. Callaghan (Waini); honorary secretary, Mr F. Kear; honorary treasurer, Mr S- J. Wilson; honorary auditor, Mr E. V. Riesterer; honorary solicitor, Mi- K. D. McFarland.
