FIRM BEEF SALE
QUIET SHEEP MARKET j FULL ENTRIES FORWARD j FRANKTON STOCK VALUES j No drastic change was apparent in Frankton stock quotations at the weekly sale yesterday. Full entries were forward in most departments with the stock in all sections mainly of average quality. Slightly more rat cattle were available than last week, but, notwithstanding, the market was very linn, bullocks sold very readily, tops making front £l2 4s to £l3 1 Os, la comparison with £l2 10s to £l3 5s last week. Medium weights were quoted from £ll to £ i'2, and lighter prime sorts, which comprised a fair proportion of the f<itry, from £<B 10s to £lO is. Cows and heifers sold just as briskly and in practically all Instances vendors experienced little difficulty in obtaining values at least equal to reserve figures. Occasional pens appeared a shade dearer, dairy bred descriptions in particular being dearer buying in some cases than stationbred cattle. Heavy prime sorts changed hands from £8 lOs to £fi 17s, in comparlsun with last week’s heavier top-priced cattle al £0 to £lO 1 Os. Prime Fir made rrom £7 5s to £8 5s and fats frum £fi I«» £7. calves and boner cattle were, again in ilrm request. Steady Sheep Sale There was little briskness about the bidding ror fat sheen, which were penned in heavy numbers. The large yarding and the lack of really attractive sheep tended to cheek any upward tendency in values. Com.pptilii>n for the most part was steady, however, and there was lillle change from last week. Any price changes were m favour or buyers. Extra prime wethers were quoted from 2 7s to 2>ss, in comparison with *27s fid to 2 9s last week; and fats from 35s (id to '2(Vs <d. against 25 s r.d to 2 75. some pens of ewes sold quite j well with quotations practically unaltered, steady bidding was shown Tor an average penning of lambs. There was no unusual feature about the fat pig market, values being on a par with those of last week, although top quotations ror baconers were lower. Ba-coneTS, •however, were not penned in sufficient . numbers to supply a reliable guide to • values. Brisk 'business was experienced in the store pig section, where a full yarding sold at very firm values.
