FATE OF REPORT

STABILISATION SCHEME CONTRAVENTION ALLEGED (By Telegrapn.—press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday “Before the ink was dry on the Economic Stabilisation Committee’s report, the acting-Prime Minister, the Hon. W. Nash, torpedoed it by increasing the •wages of sawmillers on the West Coast," said Mr G. C. Warren at the annual conference of the North Canterbury district of the Farmers’ Union. He seconded a resolution from the West Melton branch, which the conference adopted urging the Government to implement the recommendations of the committee. Mr Warren said that the Farmers’ Union had taken the major part in bringing about the establishment of the Economic Stabilisation Committee, which had worked most amicably in preparation of a report which should have been of very great value to the Government. The Government had pushed to one side the findings of the committee. Mr H. C. Wild said the West Melton branch thought it wrong that so few of the recommendations of the committee had been acted upon.
