WOMEN’S GOLF

L.G.U. MEDAL COMPETITION An L.G.U. medal competition was the fixture at St. Andrews last Wednesday. The day was fine though rain during the night and early morning made conditions rather heavier than have lately been the case, while owing to the threatening weather the field was not quite so large as usual. The senior medal was won by Miss M. Bird, who played right to her handicap with a card of 90—18—72. Mrs McDonald, who tied for second place with Miss J. Masters, did the fine round of 80 gross, which with her handicap of five gave her a nett score*uf 75. Miss Masters’ card read 93 —18 —75, and the fourth place was taken by Mrs Seyb with 84—6—78. The only reduction for the day was a good round of 90—21—69 handed in by Mrs Signal, who won the junior medal and reduced her handicap to 19. The second place resulted in a tie between Miss P. Woodroffe 96—23—75 and Miss I. Fow 107—32—75, and they were followed by Mrs Berry and Mrs Heather who both returned nett scores of 76.

We are pleased to note a good round during the week by Mrs F. H. Taylor, who, with a nice card of

90 reduced her handicap from 22 to 19. We also offer our congratulations to Mrs Salway who earned her handicap early in the week. Match-Play Foursomes The second round of the foursomes, which was concluded last week, produced two very close games. I Mrs King and Mrs McCracken had a I great tussle with Mrs F. H. Taylor | and Mrs Chitty, which ended all I square on the 18th green, and was j won by the former pair on the 19tn. • Mrs Milroy and Mrs Wake also had | a great game with Mrs Hilton and Mrs Fallwell. The latter pair played the better game through the field | but were unfortunate on the greens and were eventually beaten 1 up. In f the consolation foursomes several close victories were recorded. The match between Mrs Waring and Miss Littleproud and Mrs Mark and Mrs G. Smith went to the last green where it ended in favour of the former pair 1 up. Mrs Arthur and Mrs Brewis were also taken by Mrs E. C. Day and Mrs Oliphant to the 18th green where they were the winners by a lead of 2 up. Three matches ended 2 up and 1, the winners being being Mrs Batt and Mrs Harkness from Mrs Toombs and Mrs Seddon, Mrs Dingle and Mrs Wooller from j Mrs Berry and Miss Turnwald, and Mrs Morrison and Mrs Whineray j from Mrs McCullagh and Mrs : Davey. A bring and buy day in aid of the ; Red Cross will be held at the links on Wednesday, June 18. The committee is confident that members will contribute to this with their usual generosity and will co-operate in assisting such a worthy cause.
