CAUSES OF LOW BIRTH RATE
(To the Editor.) Sir,—l have read with interest the letters concerning the falling birth rate in New Zealand, and although I agree with “ Another Father or Three ” about the selfishness of some young people, I would like to point out another reason for the falling birth rate. I know of a case of a young couple (I daresay there are others like it) who, because of the present high costs for houses and fiats, are forced to live in roomy and to wait patiently for several years before being able to provide decently lor a muen-iongeu-for family. I would also like to point out that the wife does go to work in this case but only to help save a little extra money for these much-desired little ones. So “ Another Father of Three,” don’t be too harsh in your judgment of all the young married couples of today.—l am, etc., CHILD LOVER. Hamilton, May 6.
