NUTRITION STANDARDS

FOOD VALUE LEAGUE Speaking on nutrition standards recently, and of strong, healthy races in the world, Mrs Dorothy Johnson, the newly-appointed tutor-organiser for women’s adult education in Auckland, gave a description of a race of people in India, the Hunza, who were unsurpassed by any Indian race in perfection and physique. These had been studied by a doctor, who had found they were long-lived, vigorous in youth and age, capable of great endurance, and enjoyed a remarkable freedom from disease. Their magnificent physique was due to their diet, which comprised wholemeal bread, eaten very shortly after the wheat was taken from the ground, and milk soured instead of pasteurised. They also ate the skins of all vegetables and fruits, and meat was a rare pleasure eaten only on ceremonial occasions. Mrs Johnson said the members of the Food Value League were keeping in touch with research work in nutrition and were also doing 'extensive work in raising the level of nutrition | in this country.
