A WORRY OVERCOME
POT PLANTS WATERED The fact that they have to leave precious pot plants at home with no one to give them water often spoils holidaymakers’ peace of mind. But it is a worry that can be easily overcome. Stand the pots on a tray and with them a pail full of water. Plait some wool losely and dip it in the water and connect one strand to each pot plant. See that the wool lies at the bottom of the pail so that it can, if need be, “drink” up the last drop and fix a weight to ensure that this is so, if necessary. The water is sucked out of the pail by capillary attraction. If the water falls below one woollen strand, then the pot being served by it will not receive any water. It is a good plan to arrange the mechanical waterer a while before you leave home so as to make sure that it is working properly and will water your cherished plants until your return.
