The most stringent precautions were taken in the west of Norway following the Royal Air Force dropping thousands of leaflets in coastal towns and villages. The Lyons radio says that all public telephoning in the coastal districts of occupied France have been restricted to local calls. The Amsterdam correspondent of the American Press says that General Christensen, a German commander. after strikes and riots, issued the following proclamation: “ I have taken over executive power in the north of Holland, in view of the political situation. Strikers are warred that failure to return will result in imprisonment and even death.” The German news agency reports that Germans raided a Brussels cafe and found a huge quantity of illegal food. Mr Whittaker is the third pendent of this newspaper to be expelled. The Chicago Daily News, commenting on the expulsion, says: “Italy has virtually served notice on the world that it no longer tolerates the independent reporting of its activities in the American press.
