CHEERY NEWS”
EXPORT OF PRODUCE ! CLEARANCES NOW ASSURED ADVANCES WILL NOT BE CUT (Special to Times.) CAMBRIDGE, Thursday In the course of general business at the monthly meeting of the Power Board last night, the cuairman, Mr Mervyn Wells, said he had some really cheery news to give to the members, the farmers of the district, and, in fact, good news for everybody. As a director of the Cambridge Co-operative Dairy Company he, with other representatives of the company, had been informed: “That clearances from the freezing works of the Dominion were now assured and it would now not be necessary, as contemplated, to cut down the advances on butterfat supplied.” Mr Wells further stated that during the past 48 hours information from the best possible authorities had been received that transport would be available, assuring the export of the Dominion’s produce for the next 12 months. “I know you have, as farmers, all ben concerned at the amount of farming produce held in storage in this country and that failure to get it home to the Old Country would certainly have meant a cut in the advance payments to you,” said Mr Wells. “It is the best news I have heard for some time that ships will be coming along alright and bringing what we can purchase with them; but better still, taking back Home what we must sell and what England needs.” Members of the board chorused that it was indeed cheery news.
