HOME GUARD UNITS

TE AWAfIfIUTU DISTRICT RESIDENTS SHOW KEENNESS (Special to Times.) TE AWAMUTU, Monday Arohena district residents met laist week and formed a Home Guard unit. Mr T. Kelly, who presided, urged the forma - lion of a unit and was supported by Messrs N. M. Lethbridge and A. Jamieson. Fifty men were sworn in and Mr T. Ward was appointed leader. Nguromu residents were addressed by Messrs Lethbridge and Jamieson and unanimously voted to rorrn a unit. Mr R. Aurehernan was elected leader and all those present joined up. The Te Aw’amutu Eectrie-power Board decided at its last meeting to supply free electricity Tor flood-lighting ror Home Guard parades. In nearly every centre outdoor parades are necessary to accomodate the numbers. At Te Awamutu classes Tor N.C.O.’s continue on Thursday evening and Saturday • afternoons. Last Thursday’s parade was ; attended by over 30 n.c.o.’s Trom the coun- , try areus and there was a very good attendance on Saturday afternoon also. These classes In future will be under the charge or Captain Swarbrick, with Sergeant-Major W. J. Tucker and SergeantMajor W. Tootill as Battalion Instructors, with the rank or warrant olllcers. SCHOOL CADETS IN BARRACKS Secondary and intermediate school boys or the Te Awamutu District High School are attending barracks this week at Albert Park under the command or Captain L. J. Smith, who is being assisted by permanent stair instructors and members of the school stair, in addition, several Homo Guardrsifion have olTered their services and will attend at various times. The barracks will be held until Friday • afternoon. Physical training and elementary drill will be given.
