METHODISTS TAKE STEP '.By Telegraph.—Special lo Times) AUCKLAND, Tuesday “So far nothing definite to commit the church has been done regarding a union between the Methodist, Presbyterian and Congregational Churches,” said the Rev. W. A. Burley, at the annual conference of the Methodist Church of New Zealand. “We have held discussions on the subject and after a conference of the three churches held in Christchurch the ggesbyterian Church appointed a committee to enter into riegoUa-
tiona. “Now I wish to recommend that we appoint a similar committee. We do not ask you as yet to vote for a union in a detailed way, but merely to form this committee to enter into negotiations,” he added, in moving the adoption of the Church Union Committee’s report. The report w’as adopted unanimously and it was decided to set up a general committee on Church Union to enter into negotiations with the Presbyterian and Congregational Churches. Mr Burley was appointed chairman and convener of the committee. On the motion of Dr. C. H. Laws it was decided that the committee should be requested to consider the reference of the matter to the local courts of the church at an early date.
