HOME GUARD FORMATION

TE KOWHAI AND ONEWHERO Two strong country units of the Home Guard were formed last night. At a meeting at Te Kowhai presided over by Major C. J. Fillery, Raglan battalion commander. 38 guardsmen were enrolled, and Mr A. R. Gifford was elected leader. A meeting at Onewhero presided over by Mr R. J. Glasgow was addressed by the No. 4 Area commander, Lieutenant-Colonel R. D. McFarland, M.C., and Major K. S. Caldwell, Port Waikato battalion commander. Forty-nine men were enrolled and Mr A. E. Allen was elected leader.
