Wednesday The unusual occurrence of a woman being charged with robbery with violence was ventilated in the Supreme Court, when a Maori, Materia Brown, aged 45 years, was charged with assaulting an Indian bottlegatherer, Morar Kalyan, and robbing him of £4 10s. Through an interpreter the Indian said that accused asked him into a house in Freeman’s Bay and there assaulted him with a beer bottle and robbed him of a wallet and its contents. Evidence was given of the finding of the wallet in a restaurant where accused had been sitting. Occupants of the house supported the Indian’s story of robbery. The jury, after a half-hour’s consideration, found the woman guilty of robbery with violence, and she was remanded for sentence.
