OBITUARY

MRS M. HARNEY The death has occurred after a short illness of Mrs Mary Harney, a farming pioneer of the Waikato, at the age of 72 years. Born in Youghal, County Waterford, Ireland, Mrs Harney came to New Zealand 55 years ago on a sailing ship, landing at Picton. She lived for many years with the family of the late Archbishop Redwood, marrying Mr J. Harney at Wellington 50 years ago. After farming in the Taranaki, Hawke’s Bay and Pahiatua districts for many years. Mr and Mrs Harney came to Ihfc Waikato 32 years ago, farming at Karamu, Te Kowhai, Frankton, Walton and Morrinsville, where Mrs Harney had since resided. Mr Harney died in 1916 and there are no children. MAJOR L. T. BURWASH (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) MONTREAL, Dec. 22 The death has occurred at Coburg, Ontario, of the explorer, Major Lachlin Taylor Burwash, aged 66 years. Major Burwash, who was a mining engineer by profession, made many expeditions to the Arctic, mainly as chief investigator of the Canadian Government. SIR H. DALRYMPLE-HAY CONSTRUCTION OF TUBES (United Press Assn.—Elec. Te!. CopyrlfM) LONDON, Dec. 22 The death has occurred of Sir Harley Dalrymple-Hay, the prominent tube railway engineer, aged 79. Sir Harley was engaged in the design and construction of the Bakerloo, Hampstead and Piccadilly tubes in London and many extensions of the London tube railway system. He also acted as consulting engineer in the construction of the London post office tub __
