FROM THE CITY

NORTH SHORE WATER DEAD FISH IN LAKE DECOMPOSED VEGETATION (By Telegraph.—Press Association) AUCKLAND, Monday North Shore residents express delight with the Board of Health’s decision in Wellington, following a recent representation to the Minister of Health, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong, during his visit to Auckland. The decision is that supplies required are to be obtained from the city. For a long time large sections of the North Shore community have protested against the water supply drawn from Lake Pupuke, Takapuna. The Board of Health has advised the North Shore Water Board that it authorises the issue of requisitions upon the parties concerned. Thousands of dead fish, mostly eels and pike, were found floating on a certain area of Lake Pupuke,on Thursday morning, believed due to the decomposition of vegetable matter at the bottom of the lake. Efforts are being made to recover the fish, though it may be necessary to drag the lake to recover those that are not on the surface. The first indication of trouble was said to be the appearance of an extensive film of fish oil on the lake.
