STRUGGLE FOR BARDIA
BRITISH FORCES TIGHTEN GRIP DESPERATE RESISTANCE OF THE ITALIANS ENEMY NOT ESCAPE FROM NET (United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Dec. 23, 11 a m.) LONDON, Dec. 22 Although the Italians are still holding out desperately at Bardia, the British forces have completely surrounded the fort and have taken step? to ensure that Marshal Graziani cannot bring relief to this important outpost. The British forces are still being steadily reinforced and the operations over the past two days have been aimed at cleaning out the smaller outposts west of Bardia and completing arrangements to meet any Italian force that may be sent from Tobruk to relieve the defenders. It is stated in Cairo that the British have tightened their grip in this regioli and there does not seem to be much prospect of the Italians escaping from the net.
