FAILURE TO REGISTER
RESERVIST FINED 10s. (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) GISBORNE, Monday The first prosecution undertaken in Gisborne under the national service | emergency regulations, 1940, in respect of the failure of a young man to register for enrolment as a reservist was heard by Mr E. L. Walton, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court. The defendant was Noel Tasman Hyde, who pleaded guilty of failure to make application for enrolment under the regulations. He stated that he thought that he had registered, but he had signed so many documents that he became confused, and could not be sure. Later he made out an application for enrolment, ready for posting, to be sure of having registered, but he was working in the country at the time and did not have an opportunity to post it at once. In consequence it remained in his pocket. A fine of 10s was imposed by the magistrate, and Hyde also was ordered to pay the costs of the prosecution.
