EARLIER CLOSING

LOCAL BODY NOMINATIONS POWER BOARD'S PROPOSAL (Special to Times) CAMBRIDGE, Thursday A suggestion from the chairman, Mr M. Wells, was favourably received at a meeting of the Cambridge Electric Power Board last Wednesday night. This was that nominations for the coming local body elections should close three weeks earlier than usual. Mr Wells explained that under the existing regulations, the preparation of rolls and the majority of arrangements for an election had to be made before the closing of nominations. He felt that as far as the Power Board, and probably many other local bodies, were concerned, there would be no need for an election, and much money could be saved if nominations closed earlier. It was decided to write to the Minister of Internal Affairs outlining the board’s view.
