On every occasion the strip of sea guarded by the fleet has been too much for the invader. But military and naval achievements are not everything. _ In the peaceful arts Britain has lead the world and in philanthropic and religious movements she has ever been in the vanguard. It has been said that a slave cannot breathe in England, and this is true. The story of David Livingstone and his work in darkest Africa, the story of other patient labourers in the field of exploration, reflects credit on the race.
