SOLDIER’S OFFENCE

SIGNED ANOTHER’S NAME MONEY FROM SAVINGS BANK (By Telegraph.—Press Association) DUNEDIN, Wednesday ' Arthur Albert Freeman, aged 21, a soldier on leave from Papakura, pleaded guilty in the Police Court of wilfully signing the name G. R. Purser to a Post Office notice of withdrawal for £3 10s. In a statement to the police accused said he knew Purser, who was in the same military company. He was tempted to operate on the account because he was short of money. Detective Gibson stated that accused was convicted in Christchurch recently for obtaining money by false pretence. On that occasion he adopted the same procedure, used the same name and applied for the same sum. Freeman was committed for sentence.
